In August 2016, the commission joined the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project and launched Mississippi Free Legal Answers, the state`s first free online legal aid website available in MS.freelegalanswers.org. The website is designed to help low-income Mississippi citizens with their civil law issues. Topics of inquiry may include family law issues (such as divorce, custody, child support, access, guardianship, emancipation and adoption), name change, birth certificate correction, family violence, bankruptcy, consumers, education, employment, housing, workers` compensation, wills and estate planning. The site will not deal with criminal law issues. People eligible for support sign up for an account and then ask a question privately on the site. Lawyers will answer questions and users will be notified of their responses by email.
