The musical theatrical adaptation of the Disney classic 101 Dalmatians, directed by artistic director Timothy Sheader, celebrates its long-awaited outdoor world premiere from July 12 to August 28. The new musical, previously postponed due to the pandemic, is based on Dodie Smith`s story of Regent`s Park and includes music by Douglas Hodge and a book by Johnny McKnight from a stage adaptation by Zinnie Harris. The musical was filmed on September 18, 2007 in front of a live audience for television, as well as on two other dates when it was filmed without an audience. All three edited performances aired on MTV on October 13 and 14, 2007, with additional airing dates on November 3 and 14, 2007. Finally, there is the unfortunate thing with Laura Hopkins set. I think it`s supposed to look like Elle`s hair, which is fine (although I`m not sure her blondness is really desperately central here – her extreme love for pink is clearly the main signifier of all her “mood”). The hanging ropes that look like cornrows are fine, but the prominent areas of the set, adorned with photorealistic hair images, look like it. terrible, like something that was beaten cheaply in Snappy Snaps. If you`ve always been desperately looking for a “legal blonde,” but even more, you probably already have tickets and probably won`t be disappointed. Many very excited people wearing pink in the audience were clearly living their best lives. To me, it oscillated somewhere between a confusing excess and a disappointing and adventurous attempt to modernize a musical and a story that seems ripe for more robust questioning.
