Associate Denise Anderson, along with co-hosts Carolyn Crawford, Thomas Brown, Robert Zaralban and Chad Dunigan, presented “Extrapolation: You`re Asking Me To Assume What?” at the 2018 CLM & Business Insurance Construction Conference in Chicago. After serving as Regional President (Southern Region) of the Women in Construction Litigation Alliance (WCLA), Denise was appointed to the WCLA Board of Directors in 2015. Denise was Vice President of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (ADTA) from 2014 to 2016. In 2016, Denise was elected to ADTA`s Board of Directors for a three-year term. In addition, Denise served as a Florida delegate for the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. In 2013, she was appointed Chair of the Steering Committee for clM`s creation of a Claims Handling Manual, a national initiative led by 150 lawyers from the United States and Canada. In addition, Denise has been selected as Chair of clM`s Annual Construction and Environment Conference (Boston 2014, Atlanta 2015) for two consecutive years.
Denise was also invited to be co-chair of the ExecuSummit Construction Claims and Litigation Conference from 2016 to 2019. Denise was appointed to CLM`s National Construction Advisory Council in 2020. I would suggest that women talk to other women about what has worked for them. Women should seize opportunities to look at others in marketing or leadership opportunities. For example, I first attended conferences and watched others, and then I finally thought I should add my name to speak. Similarly, I also watched others market and imitate what I liked and suited my style. Finally, but perhaps most importantly, I would suggest that once you have participated in a professional organization and served on one or more committees, do not be afraid to apply for a leadership position. I think women have a harder time with self-promotion, and we`re waiting to be recognized instead of telling others why we deserve to be presidents or board members.
