Prescribed subjects include: biology and chemistry (weight 3), physics, mathematics and food and nutrition (weight 2), general work, secondary mathematics (weight 1), any other subject (weight 0.5). c) Compliance with other admission requirements determined from time to time by the University Admissions Office. iii) Eligibility of holders: a) A bachelor`s degree in biological sciences or in a health-related discipline from a recognized institution. (b) Cumulative grade point average of at least 2.80 for the relevant bachelor`s degree. c) Compliance with other admission requirements determined from time to time by the University`s Admissions Committee. d) The CGPA is used to evaluate candidates e) Four (4) places are generally reserved for this category of candidates, two of which go to female candidates if available. They take courses in biology, calculus, chemistry and physics, which prepare all students for the medical college admission Test (MCAT) and medical school.
However, most medical schools do not require applicants to take these courses or have a bachelor`s degree in any of these subjects for admission. Anesthesiology is associated with risks because professional practice takes place mainly in the operating room, where there is constant noise pollution, chemical fumes, ionizing radiation, infectious agents and high levels of psychological stress. Each BScA holder has the opportunity to advance their career by entering the Faculty of Medicine in the 3rd year of the MBChB program (applicants may be required to complete the mandatory clinical service after completing the BSc and before re-entering the MBChB program). Uganda`s population has grown to 34 million people, necessitating an increase in IV Health Centres (HHIV), districts and Regional Referral Hospitals (RHRs). This manual is intended for the training of trainers, but can be used to guide the education of other health professionals. The BScA will start in September 2017 at Busitema University. A scale-up plan has been developed in which 44 faculties from 5 universities across Uganda will be trained in 12 public hospitals over the next 10 years. This plan will be finalized and implemented with the input and partnership of several stakeholders and cooperating institutions. Uganda is experiencing a severe shortage of anesthesia providers and 70% of government offices for anesthesia service providers in the country are not filled. Underlying chronic issues such as compensation, career advancement and limited training capacity lead to shortages and constant fluctuations in the anaesthetic workforce. Currently, Uganda has only <1 anesthesia providers per 100,000 people, far from the goal of having at least 5 to 10 anesthesia providers per 100,000 by 2030. This target is based on evidence showing a significant reduction in maternal mortality and an improvement in perioperative outcomes. Each 10-unit increase in the number of surgeons, anesthesiologists and obstetricians per 100,000 units reduces mortality by 13%. Eligibility: a) A degree in health sciences, e.g. MBChB, BSc. With only about 40 qualified anesthesiologists across the country and nearly 300 anesthesiologists, it is obvious that we cannot adequately serve Uganda`s 34 million citizens.
Without the always significant presence of a well-trained anesthesia provider during anesthesia, safety cannot be guaranteed. The eligibility criteria for the BScA are the same as for the MBChB program. Mature holders of an entrance diploma, current anesthesiologists (higher diploma) and graduates of the Higher School (UACE) are eligible to enter the course. Students will spend the first two years learning basic science (MBChB) before completing two years of anesthesia, intensive care and pain management. Graduates have a bachelor`s degree in anesthesia and are called anesthesiologists (BScA). Each BScA holder has the opportunity to advance their career by participating in the 3rd century. The mbchb program year enters medical school (applicants may be required to complete the mandatory clinical service at the end of the BSc and before re-enrolling in the MBChB program). 12-14 yearsIt usually takes 12-14 years to become a licensed anesthesiologist: four years of undergraduate study, four years of medical school and four years of residency, followed by one year in a scholarship program or two years in private practice. The Department of Anesthesia, Faculty of Health Sciences, Busitema University, in collaboration with the Uganda Anesthesiologists Association (AAU), has developed a new anesthesia training program that complements existing anesthesia training programs in Uganda. The Bachelor of Science in Anesthesia (BScA) is a competency-based education program designed to address the critical shortage of anesthesia providers while actively addressing chronic disincentives to the practice of anesthesia in Uganda.
