Legal & Illegal London – The Inns of Court takes place every Monday at 2pm and every Wednesday at 11am. “We chose the `Legal and Illegal` walk to discover the four court inns where barristers have their offices. Our guide was Angela, an actress. Their knowledge of the Inns of Court and its history was encyclopedic. She made the tour extremely fascinating and brought her theatrical education. She didn`t need a microphone because her performance was clear, bright and concise and not without a lot of humor.
She was an absolute joy. The two-hour tour flew away. I have lived in London in the past and worked not too far from where the promenade was centred, but I never thought such places existed and so close to the main arteries that run through the city. I will definitely try more of these hikes in the future, but for the sheer joy of Angela`s wonderful tour, you really have to do this one. We toured the Inns of Court with the aptly named Simon Law. Of all the tours we`ve done, Simon is without a doubt the smartest, funniest and friendliest tour guide we`ve ever met. No question was too trivial for him and we enjoyed one or the other belly laugh about his jokes.
I highly recommend joining one of Simon`s tours. That said, I`ve been running this tour for 30 years and this is the first complaint I`ve received. A brilliant tour with a brilliant guide. I`ve walked with Shaughan before and he`s great. Full of knowledge and humor and his acting skills are a bonus when he tells great stories. Highly recommended. Every man who was in an episode of Rumpole Of The Bailey (like Shaughan) deserves 5 stars, but Shaughan also earns 5 stars for the ride. What a fascinating visit! Simon is entertaining, knowledgeable and considerate, taking the time to get to know his group as much as possible and the related facts relevant to each of us. We had recommended this hike by another guide Adam and it did not disappoint. We love London Walks and have always enjoyed every walk. We reserve another one for tomorrow! You will stand in the very place that inspired John Donne`s famous lines: “Never send to know for whom the bell strikes; It beats for you. You`ll see the old dining room (circa 1495) where Charles Dickens made the dramatic and memorable opening to his most devastating assault on the English legal system, Bleak House. You will surely come across one of the most unique and unusual garden houses in the world. and you`ll explore buildings, courts and passageways more reminiscent of peaceful Oxbridge College than the world of law. Yesterday was the third London walk my two friends and I have done now and we were not disappointed.
The conversation was fascinating and our guide Molly`s knowledge of the subject and the area was exceptional. She entertained us thoroughly during the 2 hours. So many nooks and crannies in London that we didn`t know existed without these visits. I would wholeheartedly recommend one of the hikes.
