In October 2012, Warren Leight, showrunner/executive producer of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, said of the future of the Law & Order franchise: “[Dick Wolf and I] sometimes talk in general terms about where (the franchise) might go. I`m curious to see if there will be another iteration at some point,” he says. “We strive to maintain a certain level of quality, which I think is why the shows have stayed so good in rehearsals. And I`d like to believe there`s room for another generation somehow. [3] In February 2015, NBC would be interested in returning the flagship Law & Order product in limited series. On September 28, 2021, NBC announced that it had ordered a 21st season.[4] [5] CSR follows the cases studied by Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her colleagues in the Manhattan Special Victims Unit. The show focuses on detectives investigating sex crimes and crimes against children, the elderly and the disabled. At the beginning of the twenty-second season, these detectives included characters played by Kelli Giddish, Ice-T and Octavio Pisano, while Peter Scanavino played the lead role. The twenty-third season premiered on September 21, 2021. In February 2020, the series was renewed until the 24th season.
[10] Now, SVU showrunner Warren Leight, who oversaw the Hate Crimes spin-off, said in the latest edition of THR TV`s Top 5 podcast, “I think it was seen as a better fit for Peacock,” aka NBC Universal`s new streaming service. “The language that people use when they commit hate crimes is not acceptable on network television, and that`s an interesting consideration. Law & Order: Hate Crimes was previously awarded a 13-episode contract in September 2018, though NBC insisted on a hiatus for the spin-off six months later. (The Hate Crimes team was originally scheduled to be featured on an episode of the 20th season of Law & Order: CSR, but as TVLine reported at the time, NBC focused on the latest “good” spin rather than “meeting an artificial deadline.”) In the final episode of SVU, titled Silent Night, Hateful Night, Donal Logue`s Declan Murphy returns to the troupe as a detective for the hate crimes unit. In this Christmas episode, Murphy enlists the help of some important SVU players. He does this to solve a series of hate crimes in the city on Christmas Eve. Law & Order: Hate Crimes is set in New York City, where discriminatory crimes are rigorously investigated by a specially trained team of elite investigators. Behind the headlines and viral videos, these diverse, dedicated and passionate detectives will stop at nothing to bring these criminals to justice. As a spin-off of “Law & Order: SVU,” the story would follow the New York Hate Crimes Task Force, which fights crimes related to discrimination and bigotry in the city and often works in collaboration with SVU detectives. The original series, which premiered in 1990, returned to screens in February for the first time in 12 years and became the last popular show to receive the revival. Of course, the “Law & Order” franchise never went away, as evidenced by the myriad of different shows in this world that followed Dick Wolf`s iconic legal drama. NBC had given Law & Order: For the Defense a direct-series order on May 3, 2021, a new legal drama from creator Wolf, to take a peek inside a criminal defense company.
The premise of the commissioned series was to examine defense lawyers as well as the criminal justice system, with the promise of a contemporary moral story made every week. [30] On 14. May NBC announced that the series would air for the first time during the 2021-22 television season, and on Thursday led a trio of series from the Law & Order franchise in the same way as the Wednesday group Chicago. In 2020, Leight appeared on The Hollywood Reporter`s Top 5 podcast, confirming that the show is still in development and there are plans to eventually release it on NBC`s Peacock streaming service.
