An excursion is a short trip undertaken either as a tourist or to do a specific thing. In Latin, the prefix ex- means “of” and the verb currere means “to run”. When the two are combined, they form the verb excursus, literally “exhale” or “extend”. Digression led not only to excursion, but also to digression (an adjective for things that have channels or currents that go outward) and digression (meaning “an appendix or digression containing an additional explanation of a point or subject”).
